The major event that happens in this chapter is us finding
out that Gatsby likes Daisy. We learned that they met years ago during the war.
Jordan said that Gatsby “looked at Daisy while she was speaking, in the way
that every young girl wants to be looked at sometimes, and because it seemed
romantic to me I have remember the incident ever since.”(80) Gatsby seemed to
make quit an impression on just Jordan alone, you can only imagine the impression
that he made on Daisy all those years ago. We do not really know what else
happened between them, but I assume that they had gotten to know each other
better before he had to leave to go overseas. Daisy’s family did not let her
say goodbye. I believe that what her family did to her she was very hurt and
did not want to go through with anything like that again. Gatsby is now back
and is obviously still interested in Daisy. He bought the house that he lives
in “so that Daisy would be just across the bay,” (83) Jordan had told Nick. We see
that Gatsby want to meet Daisy again after all of those years, but that he is also
nerves and does not know what to do and asks for help. Now we have to wait and see what Nick decides
to do, and if he will help even though he will be caught up in yet another
complicated relationship. We learned a little about Gatsby’s past and we also
see another side of him, but he still seems just as mysterious as in the beginning.
I think that later the relationship between Daisy and Gatsby is going to play a
big part in the story.
Great work here blending quotes and piecing together Gatsby past with Daisy. It'll certianly be interesting to see what happens with them....will she love the man five years later?
